Dermal Fillers
| One of the most dramatic ways to turn back time... |
| As our skin ages, the dermis gradually loses its major constituents: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Collagen acts as the major support protein for our skin; elastin allows our skin to stay firm and resist wrinkles; hyaluronic acid helps to trap water and add volume and shape to our skin features. |
| Dermal Filler prices start from £285 |
There are 2 main types of facial lines, “Dynamic” and “Static.”
WHAT ARE DYNAMIC WRINKLES?
| Dynamic wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to form facial expressions. During facial expressions such as smiling and frowning our muscles contract and cause our skin to wrinkle. For example, when we smile our eye wrinkles become prominent and when we frown the vertical lines between our eyebrows become noticeable. When we are young our skin springs back to its original position when we finish making the facial expression (at rest) but as we get older the dynamic wrinkles remain on the skin |
WHAT ARE STATIC WRINKLES?
| Static wrinkles are the wrinkles and folds that are present at rest or when we are not forming facial expressions. They develop as we get older because natural substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that provide the skin with structure and volume decrease with age. The loss of skin structure and volume means that the skin is less able to spring back to its initial position after facial expression, and as a result static wrinkles and folds form. |
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS GOOD FOR?
Dermal fillers are Ideal for static wrinkles. Because the goal is to return the dermis to its original youthful state, dermal fillers can give a more natural appearance than surgical face lifts. Dermal fillers are being used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, raise scar depressions, enhance lips, and replace soft-tissue volume loss in areas such as cheeks and chins.
The ideal dermal filler should be easy to administer, provide reproducible cosmetic results, remain in the dermis for a significant period of time, and have a superior safety profile. Injection of fillers usually requires the use of either a topical numbing cream or a local injection of numbing medication. Then, using a small needle, the dermal filler is injected into each wrinkle or scar that requires treatment.
| Some mild burning and stinging is normal and quickly resolves itself. |
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic acid is one of the major components of the skin, one of its main functions is
that it binds water together and thereby hydrates the skin keeping it fresh, firm and healthy.
As we age the function and distribution of hyaluronic acid in our skin gradually changes
which leads to loss of skin elasticity, leading to the characteristic signs of ageing, e.g. lines and wrinkles and change in facial shape.
| Dermal fillers made from Hyaluronic acid normally tend to last from 6 – 12 months depending on where it is in the body, the more movement in the area the shorter the time the product will last, for example having filler in the lips tends to last a shorter time than say having filler on the cheeks. |
WHAT IS COLLAGEN?
Collagen is an abundant natural protein found in the body that provides structural support to skin, muscle, tendons and bone. In the skin, fibres of collagen are woven together to provide texture, resiliency and shape. Collagen is one of the substances lost during the normal aging process.
| Collagen injections require no recovery time. They usually take less than an hour to perform. The main risk of collagen injection is an allergic reaction. Some of the collagen products are made from animals and require allergy testing prior to use. The effect lasts between 6 - 12 months. Combinations of fillers are used to achieve a natural, full look. |

JUVÉDERM ULTRA
| Juvéderm is a fairly new product which has now replaced Hydrafill. This dermal filler is produced by Allergan, the makers of Botox and is a Hyaluronic acid dermal filler which has been designed to work with static lines whilst Botox works on the more dynamic lines. The main advantage of Juvéderm Ultra is that it contains Lidocaine, a built in local anaesthetic. |
As a result the whole injection process is a more comfortable experience.
| In our experience we have also found that clients using Juvédrem Ultra have also found that they are less likely to suffer from bruising. |

RESTYLANE |
Restylane is one of the leaders in the industry, and Ethos Medical has enjoyed a great working relationship with the organization throughout the years.
All of Restylane’s products are based on their NASHA Technology. This is a way of stabilizing laboratory produced Hyaluronic acid which means that when it is put into the body it takes a longer period of time to break down. Restylane when injected into the skin replenishes your own natural stocks of hyaluronic acid.
| It works at a deep dermal level to stimulate the production of collagen and improve skin elasticity, softening the appearance of facial lines and restoring youthful volume and shape to the face. A Restylane procedure is very quick and the results can be seen immediately and last between 6-8 months. |

| EVOLENCE |
Evolence products are collagen based dermal fillers. In contrast with other collagen injections, Evolence does not require a skin test for allergies.
Once injected, Evolence binds naturally with the body's own collagen. Collagen has been used in medicine for over a century, and has been in common use as an injectable cosmetic material for more than two decades.
| However, the major disadvantage of collagen based fillers is limited longevity; maintenance of results usually requires repeat injections 2 to 3 times per year, with its patented Glymatrix™ technology, EVOLENCE™ has set a new standard for the longevity of collagen treatments, with an effect lasting at least 12 months. |
